Hujambo! My name is Karen Stringer, Ph.D. Creator of the LSN program. Like you, I know what it's like to try to learn a new language in a non-immersion setting as opposed to being immersed in the language and culture. It is hard! One day it feels like you are making progress, then the next day it feels like you know nothing at all…
I KNEW THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY AFTER I:
- Spent hours and hours on YouTube®
- Memorized 400 words from Duolingo® but was still are no better for it.
- Tried to use 5 different resources all telling me something different and I was getting overwhelmed.
- Trying to work with a tutor. As a mom to a special needs boy I simply do not have the time to meet twice a week with a tutor to see results.
All this without any results to show for it. Sometimes I wondered if I was cut out for this…Maybe you've felt this way?
The good news is, it does not have to be this way. I learned a better way of learning and in turn, over the last couple of years, I have helped over 100 students to achieve their goals of learning Kiswahili. It is my mission to provide Swahili learners with the tools they need to succeed so that they can accomplish their mission whatever it is.
Whether it is service in Swahili-speaking countries, volunteering in local communities, connecting at a deeper level with loved ones, or simply better communication with your Swahili-speaking clientele, I can help you.
I designed this course for busy adults who desire quality and flexibility in their learning. It is what I wished I had when I was learning Arabic and French a while back. (Thankfully with Spanish my experience has been much better) And I am extremely excited for the opportunity to share it with you!
What will you do with your newfound fluency?
When I started teaching Kiswahili, I was pretty much like any teacher around. I would meet with students one on one. I absolutely love engaging with students one on one. But I soon realized that there was a problem.
Half the time students would not show up to sessions because life kept getting in the way. Also, having to wait for me for the whole week to learn something new was also slowing them down. Then, I would give homework only to find that they had not done it because, let us face it, as busy adults life can get really hectic. Even my most dedicated students seemed to have this problem. Besides, I completely emphasized because I was struggling just the same although I am a language teacher.
After observing this for a while, I decided to do something radically different. I was going to sit and record everything I knew into short understandable videos that students could access as their own schedules allowed. I created them in ways that synthesized all useful information they needed to know in a systematic way so that they would never have to question if they had missed anything. I took my experience as a college professor, busy adult and struggling language learner to create a platform that would enable students of all types to succeed. This journey culminated with the creation of LSN platform. Although it was a lot of work (It took me two years of daily work), I soon realized that it was the best thing I ever could have done for my students and for myself.
- My students were no longer at the mercy of my day. As a mom of a special needs kid, one day can be radically different from another. With recorded lessons, they always had the best version of me.
- My students did not need to wait for me once or twice a week. They could continue to learn on their own even in the middle of the night if they could not sleep.
- My students could watch the same content 400 times if they wished without any embarrassment of having to ask the same questions over and over again if they did not understand.
- In-built and intuitive assessment made it easy for them to evaluate their own progress.
Although initially, I was sad to not work with students every day, I realized that it was really not about me but about what worked for students of all abilities. Very quickly I began to see huge improvements in my students’ ability to communicate in Swahili. I want the same for you too.

How does the Program work?
When someone signs us, you’ll get instant access to my amazing members area where all your courses are hosted. You will find the courses organized by modules which carry short video lessons 10 mins or less with a few exceptions. Everything is simple and you can work at your own pace. The courses teach you all grammatical concepts you need to know, and all the useful phrases you need to learn in brief drill formats. You will also have plenty of inbuilt quizzes with the option to submit your homework for grading. Accelerate also includes group conversation practice sessions and office hours if needed.
Are there different levels in Platinum?
Yes. Level 1 takes you from the complete beginner level to low intermediate level. Level 2 takes you from low intermediate level to low advanced level, just because high advancement only happens with use and time. You also get access to a listening and comprehension course that enables you to communicate from the get go with useful phrases and vocabulary. Nonetheless, we recommend you focus on the structure initially before focusing on phrases and vocabulary.
How long will it take to complete the course?
Within 9 months it is possible to complete both levels of Swahili with the last 3 months being used to review and practice. What this means is that within 4-6 months you can be at an intermediate level of Swahili.
Can you guarantee my results?
Unfortunately as much as I would love to do so, I cannot. Your success depends on your willingness to follow through on the program and your commitment to learning this language. Once you start coming to conversation practice you can see for yourself how other students are doing and how in no time you can be successful just like them.
I do not think the timing is right. Can I enroll Later?
Believe it or not, there will never be a better time than right now. You will never feel ready. It will always be a busy time. Either go for it now, or don't go for it. Nothing good comes from waiting. Some of my most successful students signed up while extremely busy. The truth is, if your mission is important to you, you will start on it sooner than later. Six months down the road, I do not want you to wonder where you would have been if you had started now. Accelerate is designed in a way that allows you to go through the content at your own pace. This is why you have the course for the year. You will never have more time until you do something to create more time. Also, I have created a payment plan for you in case you need it.
Do you offer refunds if someone does not like the course?
If within the first 30 days you do not like the course, just reach out and I will refund your money. However in the two years that I have been doing this, no one has ever asked for a refund.
I am interested but can I just start with Level 1?
Sure. If you want to first experience my teaching style… you are welcome to try LSN level 1 course. Nonetheless, I recommend committing the whole way to see the results. As you get a year’s access to each course, there is a tendency to take a year longer than if you went full steam and jumped into accelerate
